The approach to take to make losses visible

If you walk through the production hall, what attracts your attention? Do you see masses of stock, pallets containing products that must be transported from one location to another, a rush order that is made in half of the normal production time?

Why don't we make all of our orders rush orders...? Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a method used to map out all of the value-adding and non-value-adding actions that are required to make a product.

Requirements: explanation of the VSM approach, a pencil and paper, and your eyes and ears. By personally collecting the actual information on the shop floor, you make a snapshot of the current situation. This snapshot forms the basis for working on and creating the future situation.
